Pregnancy crisis centre continues to grow

Life Choices Pregnancy Crisis Centre held its annual general meeting at the Covenant Life Centre in Northmead on November 18.

Lauren Jee, founder of the organisation, said if someone had to ask them what year they would remember most, she would say 2017.

“There were very busy days and quiet ones … I will remember 2017 as a year of both success and endurance,” said Jee.

“Our understanding of pregnancy, baby care and breastfeeding has improved greatly.”

Jee added that they got an opportunity to attend antenatal classes, breastfeeding workshops, pregnancy education and a Clicks baby-to-baby event.

“With all this new insight we have compiled our own antenatal workbook that is aimed at the women who don’t have medical aid,” she said.

Life Choices Pregnancy Crisis Centre is a counselling centre for women who find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy.

The centre also holds antenatal classes at the Northmead Clinic on a weekly basis.

The centre’s financial report for April 2016 to March 2017 revealed that its total income is R260 600 and its total expenses are R271 951.11.

The centre has been newly renovated.

Jee said they have been longing to renovate and uplift their offices.

“We are so grateful for all the sponsors who made that a possibility,” she said.

The centre has seen a total of 170 women from January until October.

She said plans for next year are to increase the number of clients, open full day for counselling, partner with other NPOs , provide every mom with enough toiletries and skills, hold fund-raising events and offer antenatal classes to clients and expectant mothers.
