Benoni hosts yet another successful Toy Run

The 35th annual Gauteng Motorcycle Toy Run was held in Benoni for the sixth consecutive year on Sunday.

Thousands of motorcycles came pouring into Benoni from the N12 and the R21 from Atlas Road.

Drivers had stuffed toys of all colours, shapes and sizes strapped to various parts of their bodies, equipment and motorcycles.

Benonians also took to the streets to watch the motocycle procession from their front yards.

According to Kim Mattsen, Toy Run secretary, the organisation has about 30 beneficiary organisations.

“We are regulated by a code of conduct, as the Toy Run is a nationwide event, and this code dictates that the toys must be distributed by Christmas,” said Mattsen.

She explained that the toys are divided into three categories namely soft toys, educational toys and those that are gender specific.

“We managed to gather a combined total of about 24 000 toys,” said a proud Mattsen.
