Drop safe bombed at filling station

Police have launched a manhunt after a drop safe was bombed at a petrol station in the early hours of this morning (November 27).

The incident happened at the Sasol filling station on the corner of Putfontein and Cloverdene roads, near Chief Albert Luthuli Park at about 1am.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster head of spokespersons, Lt Col Mack Mngomezulu, said it is alleged that two vehicles with five occupants were involved in the crime.

“One of the two vehicles was being filled with diesel when one of the occupants came out of the car and pointed a gun at the petrol attendant,” said Mngomezulu.

“He then took him inside the shop and held him hostage with two cashiers who were also inside.

“The other occupants also went to the shop and they blasted the safe.”

The five men fled with an undisclosed amount of money in a Ford EcoSport and a white Hyundai Accent.

No injuries were reported.

A case of business robbery has been opened at the Crystal Park SAPS.
