Bribe attempt backfires

The Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Tactical Team has arrested a tuck shop owner for bribery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunition.

The man was arrested in the Lindelani informal settlement on November 26.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster head of spokespersons, Lt Col Mack Mngomezulu, said the police received a tip-off from the community.

“When they arrived at the tuck shop and conducted a search they discovered a firearm,” said Mngomezulu.

“The man bribed the police with R1 000.”

The man was immediately arrested.

A case of bribery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened at Actonville Police Station.

The suspect will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
