Serial rapist purports to be a plumber

The Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit has launched a manhunt for an alleged serial rapist.

This comes after several cases have been reported since 2014, in Crystal Park, Daveyton, Etwatwa and Putfontein.

Over 40 cases have been opened against the man believed to be in his 30s.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster police spokesperson Lt Col Mack Mngomezulu said it is alleged the man pretends to be a plumber from the municipality.

“He tells residents that he fixes leaking taps, pipes and geysers, and then residents allow him to enter their premises to check for any leaks,” said Mngomezulu.

“Once he is inside the premises and realises that there is no one else in the house, he threatens victims with a knife or firearm and rapes them.”

In most cases, the man allegedly wears a black or brown beanie said Mngomezulu.

He is described as being slender but masculine, short in height, clean and speaks isiZulu.

Mngomezulu said he targets women of various ages.

He added that the man also targets school children who are walking to school and takes then to the nearest veld where he rapes them.

The man is always on foot.

The spokesperson urges all females to be careful of whom they allow into their premises and says school children should always walk in groups.

Police are working around the clock to stop the suspect from committing more rapes, he said.
