BHS teacher wanted his bread buttered on both sides

A consumer studies teacher, Neil Senneck from Benoni High School allegedly resigned after he asked a domestic helper at the school to invigilate and mark a matric practical examination.

The Sunday Times reported that the teacher asked the domestic worker to facilitate the class and mark while he took other learners to a soccer match.

It is alleged that he was a soccer coach at the school too.

The publication states that eight learners from the school redid their final practical exam after the parents complained to the school about the arrangement of the helper tasting and marking the dishes prepared by the learners.

“The school’s management team took action when they heard about this and gave the teacher a warning,” said a spokesperson for the school’s governing body, Danie van Rensburg.

The mark for September’s practical as well as another practical from earlier this year comprised 25 per cent of the final mark for the subject.

Due to the pending investigation, the school could not provide more information and Senneck could not make any comments.

The City Times had not received any comment from the Department of Education at the time of publication.
