Dingwall Street shooting victim should make full recovery

A man thought his father was going to die in his arms after he had been shot twice in a Northmead house robbery on October 20.

A 29-year-old and his girlfriend were asleep in a flatlet at their Dingwall Street residence when two gunmen entered the unit at about 2.30am.

The “very aggressive” male robbers demanded a light be switched on.

The man, who did not want to be named to protect the identity of his family, said the intruders demanded laptops and cellphones.

“We are going to f&*%$n kill you,” the criminals said.

In the process, they fired a round, which narrowly missed the man’s girlfriend.

The woman’s screams alerted neighbours who pressed a panic button, as well as the man’s father who was asleep in the main house.

The 29-year-old said his father went outside and screamed at the intruders.

While the gunmen pointed their weapons at him and fired, he ducked behind a vehicle in the driveway.

The first round missed, but the other two hit him.

One of the bullets grazed his left thigh.

The third bullet entered the resident’s left hip, passed through and exited the other leg.

“I thought he was going to die in my arms,” the son said.

The 59-year-old man was rushed to hospital.

He has since been moved from the high care unit to the surgical ward and is expected to make a full recovery.

The robbers made off with two laptops, a cellphone, wallet and a jewellery chain.

Const Zama Madonda, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said a case of house robbery was opened.
