Swift Aquatics happy to be back at Benoni Northerns Swimming Pool

The water babies of Swift Aquatics Club are delighted to be back in the drink at Benoni Northerns Swimming Pool after the facility was closed for treatment on February 8.

The pool reopened for the summer season on October 1.

Swift Aquatics held their first club night of the swimming season at the pool on Wednesday, October 18 which saw chairperson and coach, Glenn Keevy excited to be back in familiar waters.

“It is exciting to be back at the pool, although the water is a bit cold,” said Keevy.

“This is our first club night of the season and we are looking forward to a good season as far as club nights go.”

He said any club night is a fun event at which the club’s swimmers compete against each other in their respective age groups in a friendly atmosphere.

“It is a time when they learn to swim better, to make mistakes and to correct those mistakes before they go and compete at provincial galas.

“It is a learning environment which nurtures swimmers.”

Keevy, who coached Olympic swimmer Douglas Erasmus in the past, added there are some good swimmers coming through the club’s ranks with a few members achieving Level Three times while there are many juniors at the start of their careers who have made Level One times.

“At last count we had about 65 members at Swift and I see we have a few new faces here tonight.”

He added that the club also holds ‘time trial’ swims which means interested swimmers pay a small fee to swim a race to determine whether they like the sport or not.

From there they aim to bring interested swimmers into the club.

The club trains on Mondays to Thursdays at Benoni Northerns Swimming Pool.
