The incident occurred in Henops Road, at about 5am.
According to Benoni SAPS spokesperson Const Zama Madonda, three armed men gained entry to the house from a back window.
“The man was alone in the house and one of the suspects tied him up with shoelaces while the others searched the house,” said Madonda.
The suspects fled with jewellery, electronic devices and the owner’s coin collection.
No arrests have been made.
A case of house robbery has been opened at the Benoni Police Station.
