Vehicle recovered soon after hijacking

A vehicle was recovered shortly after it was hijacked in Crystal Park on October 10.

Chief Sup Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the EMPD, said at least two armed men hijacked the owner of the Volvo sedan.

“After receiving information about the hijacking and the direction the vehicle had taken, the EMPD First Responder Unit (FRU) members moved swiftly in that direction,” said Kgasago.

The EMPD spotten the vehicle and chased after it.

“A high speed chase ensued. The hijacked vehicle was driven at dangerous, breakneck speed and skipped red traffic lights in the process,” said Kgasago.

“The Volvo was driving in the direction of Kingsway.”

The spokesperson said the hijackers evaded arrest after abandoning the Volvo and fleeing on foot.

Authorities found two unlicensed 9mm pistols in the boot of the Volvo.

“The metro police have concrete leads to follow and the culprits are expected to be behind bars soon,” Kgasago added.
