Mother in need of sponsors for daughter’s medical treatment

Actonville resident Dereshni Pillay needs R200 000 to get her three-year-old daughter, Thermishaa Soman, stem cell treatment.

Pillay has raised R27 250 thus far.

Pillay is appealing to the public to assist her with funds.

Thermishaa was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and cortical blindness when she was about 11 months old when her mom noticed that she could not crawl or walk.

“I realised something was horribly wrong; I took her for a full medical examination,” she said.

“Nothing will ever explain the pain I felt when I was told my baby would not be like every other child I see running around, playing, singing, dancing.

“I would give anything to swap places with my little girl.”

After doing some research, Pillay found a hospital called Advancells in India.

The hospital uses stem cell therapy to help children with cerebral palsy lead a better life.

Pillay contacted doctors at the hospital and sent them Soman’s medical reports.

They gave her positive feedback on the treatment for Soman and said they could start the treatment as soon as possible.

Due to Soman being in and out of hospital, Pillay has resigned from her job to look after her.

According to Pillay, when Termishaa was three days old she was admitted to hospital for a liver and lung infection as well as double pneumonia and yellow jaundice.

“As the months passed, I found that Thermishaa was not developing and achieving the milestones for a growing baby.”

“I thought it was due to her being born prematurely.”

Termishaa will have 10 sessions of treatment at the treatment centre which will take about six weeks.

Accommodation, flights and the doctors’ fees are needed.

The treatment is scheduled to happen in December.

“As a mother I am appealing for assistance in order to fit the medical bill to conduct this treatment for Thermishaa,” she said.
