One dies, two injured in weekend accidents

One person died and two others sustained moderate injuries in three separate accidents in Benoni at the weekend.

On Friday evening, a man sustained moderate injuries in a single-vehicle accident on Great North Road.

The incident happened near Stanley Road, at about 11pm.

ER24 spokesperson Liam Hardy said the vehicle rolled.

The driver, who is in his 20s, was transported to the Tambo Memorial Hospital.

On Sunday morning, one person sustained moderate injuries when two vehicles overturned just off the N12 west near the Putfontein turn-off.

“Shortly before 7am, paramedics from ER24 arrived on the scene where they found a Toyota Hilux and a Toyota Fortuner that had overturned,” said ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.

The driver of the Fortuner sustained moderate injuries.

“He was treated on the scene and later transported to Tambo Memorial Hospital,” Vermaak added.

“The second driver declined to be transported to hospital.”

The circumstances contributing to the crash are not known at this stage.

In another accident at about 4.30pm, a pedestrian died on the N12.

The collision happened before the Kingsway Road off-ramp, when travelling west.

Hardy said a man in his 50s had already died when paramedics arrived on the scene.

The two occupants in the vehicle, a man and a woman, were not injured.
