Manger Care honoured to be golf day beneficiary

More lives will be changed by the Manger Care Centre (MCC) thanks to the funds they will receive through the Benoni City Times Buco Rietpan Charity Golf Day.

Manger Care Centre (Brentwood Park) and the SPCA (Lakefield) are the beneficiaries for the annual golf day event which will be hosted at the Benoni Country Club on September 6.

Andrew Wessels, communication officer at the MCC, said being beneficiaries will help the MCC projects which are conducted in Daveyton and Etwatwa.

“We are so excited about being nominated as beneficiaries because it shows that we work hard and are acknowledged for it,” Wessels said.

The money raised will be used to further enhance the community and the development projects.

“We provide a soup kitchen daily,” Wessels added.

“This soup kitchen helps about 2 500 children.

“We also equip members of the community to help children.”

On average, the MCC accommodates 43 people weekly.

“We take in people who are in need and then place them on our six-month reintegration program,” Wessels said.

“The programme consists of a checklist which enables us to see whether they can function again in society and when they are ready, we send them back into the world.”

MCC helps people to find jobs when they are able to function by themselves in society by negotiating with employers.

The centre also started several projects called Sustainable Generated Income whereby they encourage people to generate their own income.

These projects include planting seedlings, greenhouse manufacturing, a carpentry shop, upholstery and a bakery.

On average, MCC requires R2-million per month to function.
