Know your Benoni: Music is his food of love

BCT: When did you move from Benoni?

KP: I lived in Benoni from 2006 until 2017 until my move to Kempton Park, but my children still go to school in Benoni.

I lived in Farrarmere, and still drive all the way there to go grocery shopping.

BCT: Tell us about your blog?

KP: I started writing posts on my personal Facebook page and my friends told me I should start a blog.

I officially started the page last month; it is called ‘This Mom Can’t Cook’.

I realised that I cannot be the only one who has meltdowns and craved going to the loo without an audience.

I try to write one once a week and post it on a Thursday.

It is either about my week, mom confessions or little realisations I have had.

It is about what it is really like to be a mom, and that we are all trying to be the best moms we can be.

I named it after my most embarrassing confession that I cannot cook (I burnt soup in a slow cooker once).

BCT: Tell us about your family.

KP: I am married to Barry Pretorius. We have been married for eight years and have two children, Casey (6) and Luke (3).

Barry is a recovering drug addict and we decided to make the story of his addiction and how it affected me and our family public because there are so many women going through the same thing and they hide it.

Barry has been clean and sober for four years and the worst time of our lives is behind us.

I may joke a lot in the blog, but to be honest, I feel grateful to be normal for the first time since we got married and my blog is almost a celebration of that normalcy.

BCT: Tell us about your goals and plans?

KP: My dreams are to do an addiction counselling course, to make a success of my blog and the business I run and to save enough money to take our kids to Disneyland.

Oh, and I have decided to learn how to sew.

The first step would probably be to get a sewing machine.
