Fun dribbles over at Northerns’ junior hockey tourney

If the broad grins, delightful chuckles and abundance of young participants are anything to go by, then the future of hockey sure looks bright.

Benoni Northerns Junior Hockey club’s (BNJH) popular junior hockey tournament took place on the morning of July 29 and was, once again, a roaring success.

“We hosted another fantastic tournament with well over 900 children between the ages of five and 13 registered for the event,” said Benoni Northerns Hockey Club’s vice-chairman and junior hockey co-ordinator, Mark Flee.

“Our club has managed to attract visitors from all over the greater Johannesburg area, as far afield as Krugersdorp.

“Matches were played across 12 grass fields and two AstroTurfs split between three venues to accommodate them all.

“I have received compliments and congratulations from a host of parents and their clubs on all aspects of the event.

“I would like to thank our organisers for their tireless efforts regarding both the planning and successful delivery of a superb event.

“I’d also like to express my thanks to the surrounding community for their support and patience during the event.

“The amazing support we have had from players, supporters, suppliers and the Benoni community at large has helped us raise much-needed funds during our one major fund-raiser for the year

“I am looking forward to our tournament next year and I trust that its success will only grow in the years to come.”
