Duathlon delight for de Meyer

Chané de Meyer (14), a Grade Eight pupil from Hoërskool Brandwag, was recently crowned South African Duathlon Champion after winning the South African Duathlon Championships held on July 2 at Midmar Dam in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

The race was a closely fought battle from start to finish with the lead changing regularly during the run, cycle, run format.

De Meyer, running for Central Gauteng Athletics, came in first place after the first run leg, dropped to second place during the cycle leg, but reclaimed first position during the final run leg.

The duathlete, who is coached by Glen van der Westhuizen from Benoni High Athletics Club, was ecstatic after her win and has her sights set on further development and opportunities in duathlon.

Earlier this year, de Meyer also won gold at the Gauteng Duathlon Championships.
