Four charged with possession of unlicensed firearm

The EMPD Tracing Unit arrested four men, aged between 27 and 42, for possession of an unlicensed firearm, on July 18.

This is after the officers pulled over a blue VW Jetta, with four occupants, during a routine patrol along Modderbee Road at about 9am.

EMPD spokesperson Chief-Supt Wilfred Kgasago said the men looked suspicious.

“The evident anxiety displayed on the faces of all four men raised suspicions that led to their vehicle being searched,” said Kgasago.

A .38 calibre firearm was found inside the vehicle.

Kgasago added that all four men claimed they had no knowledge of the firearm.

All men were arrested and detained at the Benoni Police Station.
