Lauryn Talbot (26), of Rynfield, was inducted as president-elect of the club, taking over from Nick Maré, who led the Lakes for two years.

Talbot thanked fellow club members for nominating her and electing her to the position.

“I can tell you with great confidence that I am extremely nervous for my year ahead, but I would like to thank my club in advance for the support for my 2017/18 year,” said Talbot.

“I am really excited to see what we can achieve together.”

She said she and her committee would brainstorm new fund-raising ideas, but will continue with their main fund-raisers, their annual golf day and Barnyard evening.

Talbot said projects for her term will include engagement with the youth, projects aimed at protecting the environment, relieving hunger, eye screenings and assisting those affected by paediatric cancer and diabetes.

Maré has put his faith in his successor.

“I have the utmost confidence in you and your ability and I really look forward to your report. I am confident that you will not only make us smile, but you will make all of us proud Lions,” Maré said, emphasising that Talbot’s success would be a collective effort.

“It is not a ‘one-Lion’ job – it is a job that is going to require every single person’s assistance,” said Maré.

“Every single one of us needs to make sure that Lion president-elect Lauryn has an incredible year, just as I have had for the past two years,” he added.

The induction ceremony also saw the induction of two other new members, namely Kirsty McVie and Justin Sly, who both received certificates of appreciation, as did the following:
