Hijackers make getaway with Mini Cooper

A case of hijacking was opened at the Benoni Police Station after a man was hijacked at his workplace on O’Reilly Merry Street on Tuesday morning (May 30).

Capt Nomsa Sekele, Ekurhuleni Central Cluster SAPS spokesperson, said the victim, who was driving a black Mini Cooper, arrived at work but the motor-operated gate refused to close after he entered the premises.

“He then got out of his vehicle, gathered his belongings from inside the vehicle and walked towards the gate, still trying to close it using the remote,” Sekele said.

“Two males who were walking on the road greeted him and he greeted back, then the gate began to close.”

The victim then turned to enter his work building when he heard the same two men shouting at him to stop.

As the victim turned around to look at the suspects, he saw one of them pointing a gun at him, threatening to shoot.

“They entered the premises as the gate was closing and then took several personal belongings from the victim, including his wallet and cellphone,” Sekele said.

“They got into the Mini Cooper and drove off.”
