Clothes found next to child’s body match that of missing girl (4)

An inquest docket has been opened at the Putfontein Police Station after the remains of a child were found in an open veld on May 15.

The body is believed to be that of a four-year-old girl who was reported missing on April 7.

Putfontein SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube said the badly decomposed body was found between Mogoba and Mgababa Village, Putfontein.

“The body was found by residents, who then notified the police,” he said.

“It is not clear how long the body had been there.”

Ramaube added that the clothes worn by the child who was reported missing match the clothes found next to the body that was found on May 15.

The child’s parents were notified and, according to the police, identified the clothes next to the body as that of their child’s, but DNA results are not yet available.

“We are appealing to the community to look after their children and not allow them to walk around without supervision, especially near open fields, as there are people targeting children for their own evil motives,” said Ramaube.

Police are appealing to anyone with information about the child’s death to come forward.

Contact the station on 011 845 6330.
