Local publishes book dedicated to everyone who dreams of a better life

“A focused mind is the most powerful weapon.”

These are the words shared by philanthropist and author Kennedy Sefadi, who recently launched his book titled I said I will succeed, they laughed.

The Etwatwa resident is passionate about inspiring young people through his life story.

The book was launched on April 20 and it’s dedicated to everyone who dreams of a better life than what their circumstances allow for.

Sefadi said we are not defined by our circumstances, as we have the ability to change and shape our lives.

He said he used to tell people about his dreams, like how he wanted to be an entrepreneur, but they laughed at him.

“I believe if you see the end goal in mind, it doesn’t matter who said what or what challenges you face,” he said.

“We’re born with our hands clenched, we were born to fight for our survival on earth and be the best we can be.”

In the book, Sefadi shares how he experimented with alcohol, gambling, smoking and how he almost failed his matric.

“This part of my life was sad,” he explained.

“As a kid, I never understood why I had never won awards, athletic medals or trophies like other children.

“I used to hate myself, envied other children and spent most of my time questioning my ability to compete with others.”

He added that he learnt that life has unlimited uncertainties and it is not what happens to you that matters, but how you react to it.

In 2014, he graduated with a BTech in fire technology from the Tshwane University of Technology.

He is now doing his MTech in organisational leadership at the Tshwane University of Technology.

At the age of 20, Sefadi worked for the City of Tshwane as an acting shift manager.

At just 25, he is the CEO of Phambano Consultants, a motivational speaker, chairperson of the Ekurhuleni Youth Religious Leaders and founder of the Youthhood non-profit organisation, which brings hope and faith to young people in different schools.

With his continued hunger for knowledge, Sefadi is doing his private pilot’s licence.

“I want to build an aviation school in Daveyton and that is what inspired me to study to become a pilot.”

The book will be available at selected bookstores by the end of May.
