Police on trail of suspected car thief

The Benoni SAPS vehicle identification section is asking for assistance to help them with a case of theft of a motor vehicle.

According to the Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson, Const Zunickha Essakjee, it is alleged that the complainant received a phone call from a man who introduced himself as Patrick Sibanyoni, who said he saw an advertisement online for a vehicle the complainant was selling.

On August 8, 2016, Sibanyoni and the complainant met at a Springs taxi rank.

“The two met for the purpose of allowing the buyer to view the car,” said Essakjee.

“Sibanyoni showed interest in buying the car and gave assurance that money will be deposited into the complainant’s bank account.”

Essakjee said money was deposited and the vehicle was allegedly handed over to Sibanyoni that same day.

On the following day, the payment was apparently reversed and when the complainant tried to contact Sibanyoni, his phone was allegedly off.

Anyone with information can contact WO Thulani Madise on 011 474 0300 or 073 537 5192.
