Man sentenced for murder

A man was sentenced to seven years imprisonment, suspended for five years, for murder, on April 18.

In addition, Milton Molomo Tjiane will be under three years’ correctional supervision and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Moloto was gambling at a tavern in Lindelani, Kingsway on November 26, last year, when his victim tried to rob him of his belongings, but Tjiane managed to run away.

Ekurhuleni Central Cluster spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said while the murder victim made his way back to the tavern with his friends, Tjiane approached him, pointed a firearm at him and fired.

“He then fled the scene,” said Sekele.

“The investigating officer, Det-Sgt Donavan Naicker, managed to get hold of the accused telephonically and convinced him to hand himself over.”

Tjiane handed himself over to the police on December 3, last year, and he was charged with murder.

He appeared in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on December 6.

Benoni SAPS station commander Brig Johan Jacobs praised Naicker for his hard work and for convincing  Tjiane to turn himself in to police.
