The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) said as of May 1, waste that is not in the 240l bins will not be collected.
Since the announcement last month, the DA in Benoni has asked the EMM to organise further roll-outs, saying the first two weekends mid-last year were not sufficient.
Ward 23 Clr André du Plessis requested assistance from Benoni’s customer relations manager, Helen Naidoo, at the end of March.
Du Plessis was still in the dark about his call on April 13.
Jeanette Gray (66), of The Stewards, said she cannot collect a bin from the depot at 4 Golden Drive.
“Please be so kind as to advise me how on Earth I go to Golden Drive and collect a bin?” she asked.
“I am a pensioner and my car is far too small to transport a bin, plus I will not be able to lift the bin in and out of the car.”
Morehill resident Vivian Jeffrey will also have a problem, saying he does not have the necessary transport.
In addition, Jeffrey said he’s unable to collect the container as he works during the hours the depot is open.
The metro said the collection point is open on weekdays from 7am until 3.30pm.
The municipality did not respond to questions at the time of going to print.

We will extend a plea to the public to assist in transporting the elderly to and from the depot to collect their containers.
