Bens draw, BNFC defeated

Both of Benoni’s ELFA Super League teams did battle away from home on Saturday, April 8.

Coach Jannie van den Berg’s Benoni Northerns Football Club (BNFC) first XI travelled to D H Harris Stadium, in Alberton, and were on the wrong side of a 2-1 score-line.

After scoring goals for fun in their first three league encounters of 2017, the team, according to Van den Berg, failed to convert good scoring chances in the match.

“Alberton did not have too many scoring opportunities, but they took them when they presented themselves and we did not,” he said.

Kwanda Sokutu bagged the goal for BNFC.

Meanwhile, coach Raymond Cloete’s Old Bens Football Club first XI came from 2-0 down to draw their match 2-2 against Kempton Park.

“We were caught napping in the opening 10 minutes to concede those goals, but controlled the match well thereafter,” said Cloete.

Mkululeko Makhubo and Sifundo Sibanyoni scored the goals for Old Bens.

Old Bens were due to play Luso Africa on Tuesday, April 11, while BNFC were set to play Robertsham away from home.
