The club’s Keri Wilson Award (donated to the club by Keri’s mother Anna after a freak car accident in 2007 when Keri was 16 years old) was presented to the BNCC u-12A squad.

According to BNCC junior chairman Jason Clark, “The award goes to a player or players who not only plays the game in the true spirit of the sport and displays exemplary sportsmanship at all times, but to someone who goes beyond the call of duty both on and off the field.

“On Saturday, March 4, we played against Springs Old Boys.

“We had to call up six boys from the u-12B team to assist us with our game on the Saturday.

“When it ended, our boys lined up to shake hands with the opposing team.

“Their coach came over, congratulated the team on winning, and asked if we would mind if he put his 12th man on for a bat, a new boy in their team, who is hard of hearing.

“Our boys did not hesitate, and invited the boy onto the field.

“On his first ball he was bowled out, to which our boys responded: ‘Coach, please call it a no ball’ and proceeded to put the bails back on the stumps and give the boy another go.

“In the meantime, a group of boys had surrounded him, and were coaching him, explaining where his bat should go, how he should stand and where the ball would pitch.

“Our bowler proceeded to pitch it exactly where he was supposed to and allowed the boy to make some runs.

“The last ball hit him on his hand, and almost instantly he had a group of our boys surrounding him, making sure he was okay.

“Among themselves they decided that they did not want to hurt him again and said that it was enough.”

These players were on the BNCC team on the day: Alistair Coupland, Nathan Rothman, Jarod Miller, Ryan Deetlefs, Ruben Wilken, Jeff Coppin, Tyler Campling, Aiden McAllistair, Jordan McAllistair, Michael Koch and Jacques Koch.
