The police’s Ekurhuleni Central Cluster held a two-day operation focusing on illegal mining and illegal liquor outlets last week.

The illegal liquor operation on Friday was held between 8am and 8pm.

Two outlets were closed in Etwatwa and fines to the value of R4 500 were issued. The alcohol was also confiscated.

On Saturday, between 8am and 8pm, police hiked visibility in Lakeside and East Rand malls and the Mall @ Carnival.

In addition, areas known for illegal mining were patrolled.

“A 36-year-old female suspect was arrested for possession of explosives, dealing in dagga and for being in the country illegally,” said the cluster spokesperson, Capt Nomsa Sekele.

A total of 1 030 counterfeit CDs and DVDs were also confiscated during the operation.
