Two domestic workers were tied up in two separate robberies in Benoni today (March 28).

The first happened at a Greybe Street home in Rynfield.

According to Capt Nomsa Sekele, Ekurhuleni Central Cluster SAPS spokesperson, a domestic worker opened the gate to the property at around 10.30am, after hearing the bell ring.

“She thought it was the gardener because he said he was going to the shops, so she opened,” Sekele said.

When the gardener did not appear, she went outside to investigate.

She was confronted by two men, both of whom had knives.

The domestic was told to keep quiet, after the intruders claimed they were on the property to conduct electrical repairs.

While the worker was tied up, the robbers stole 10 tablets, cellphones, an external hard drive, two Plaza TVs, and linen, amongst other items.

In another incident, a domestic worker was tied up at a Chaucer Road house in Farrarmere at 12.10pm.

Sekele said the domestic worker went outside when two occupants in a cream and silver sedan had already gained access onto the property.

“The driver got out and said he has an appointment with the owner of the house as they agreed that he would clean the yard,” Sekele added.

The domestic worker made her way into the house, but one of the men followed her and grabbed her by the neck.

She was tied with cable ties.

“While they were busy tying her hands, one shouted, ‘let’s shoot her, let’s shoot her’, but the other suspect said ‘no’.”

The woman did not see a firearm in the men’s possession.

The spokesperson said five Plazma TVs were taken, along with a DVD player, Play Station, clothes, and other possessions.

Sekele urged home owners to sensitise their employees to the dangers of allowing strangers onto properties.

She said an investigating will reveal whether the two cases are linked.

No arrests have been made.

Cases of house robbery have been opened.
