The arrest of the 28-year-old man took place on Elm Road, at about 1.50am.
WO Rudi Sieberts, communications officer at the Crystal Park SAPS, said members from a private investigation unit saw illegal activity in the veld.
“The complainant was using night vision when he spotted three persons in the veld, and upon approaching them, two of the suspects ran away, but the investigator managed to arrest one.”
Sieberts said Elm Road is a hot spot for cable theft.
Two 3m-long cables were found to have been cut.
The suspect is being detained at the Crystal Park Police Station.
