Saints and Sinners star destined to be great
Young, talented actress Bongiwe Ngidi, from Rynfield, is destined to make a name for herself in the entertainment industry.
Bongiwe features in season three of Mzansi Magic’s Saints and Sinners, in which she plays the role of Khethiwe.
The 19-year-old said the only similarities between Khethiwe and herself is that they are both first year students.
“We are both faced with the challenges of change, new environments, school and friends,” said Bongiwe.
“However, Khethiwe associates herself with the wrong crowd, she is also very naïve and gullible and her efforts in obtaining a degree are undermined by her ‘blesser’, Rulani, played by Elliot Makhubo.”
She added that Khethiwe is a tough character to play because she is nothing like her; she’s very noisy and conniving, yet innocent at the same time.
The young actress says she knew from a young age that she was destined to be a performer.
“I started drama at the age of nine and since then I’ve been involved with institutions such as Sibikwa Arts Centre and the New York Film Academy.”
Bongiwe is currently studying a BA Drama at the University of Pretoria.
Saints and Sinners was Bongiwe’s career highlight when she landed the role.
“After two weeks of auditioning, my agent called me and told me I got the part, which made my whole year,” she said.
Last year, Bongiwe landed a cameo role on the e.tv drama series Z’bondiwe.
She says said the public can expect to see more of her on the small screen and as part of road shows around the East Rand.
The actress said she is driven by God, her passion and family.
Bongiwe added that her mother and mentor, Lehlohonolo Dube, has been a huge influence on her.
“My mother has always believed in my craft, she has watched every single eisteddfod and play I have been in and she always motivates me to enrich my craft,” she said.
The former Benoni High School pupil said in the next few years she plans on being part of a major radio station, television shows and South African films.
She enjoys studying and spending time with her family, friends, watching theatrical productions and visiting Sibikwa when she’s not acting.
