Themba Gadebe, EMM spokesperson, said the following penalties were levied against those who exceeded their monthly usage of 25kl or 15 per cent above their average consumption:
Residential
Number of accounts: 115 033
Penalty amounts levied: R8 030 386
Institutional
Number of accounts: 886
Penalty amounts levied: R338 376
Business
Number of accounts: 8 206
Penalty amounts levied: R15 064 688
Gadebe said around 10 complaints were received about people breaking the water restrictions.
“Out of the 10, seven resulted in fines,” said Gadebe.
“Due to confidentiality of client information, we cannot disclose the details of the complaints.”
