Inadequate post deliveries annoy residents

Several complaints have been posted on the City Times Facebook page regarding the inadequate service of postal delivery in Benoni.

Rynfield resident Sonja Barac said she receives mail on an irregular basis and it is frustrating to find her postbox empty.

“My husband is a subscriber to the Time magazine and he mostly gets nothing for weeks and then four or five at the same time,” Barac said.

“I received Christmas cards that were mailed in early December and we received them mid to end of January.”

Crystal Park resident Mathapelo Kgasane said no mail has been received since November last year.

“I went to the post office in Crystal Park to enquire,” Kgasane said.

“I was referred to the Benoni Post Office because apparently the mail is being held there and they are waiting for them to deliver.”

Ockert Annandale goes to the post office in Farrarmere and said, to date, post is either delivered too late to be of any value or never delivered at all.

“My water and lights account, which was posted by the council during December last year, due to be paid January 6 was only received on February 7,” Annandale said.

“Medical aid statements dated May 19 last year, were received on July 29; a statement for June 17 was received on August 18; and a statement for September 22 was received on November 15.

“Statements for November, December and January are still somewhere in the post.”

Annandale added that the service is one not to be proud of.

Benoni residents Nico and Margaret Botha received Christmas cards three weeks after Christmas.

“Relying on post is a total waste of time,” Nico said.

A Daveyton resident, who lives in Extension Two, said he has not receive any mail for the past three months.

Paul Fouché, the SA Post Office’s Witwatersrand regional manager, said customers should start to see an improvement in delivery standards.

“Mail delivery in the Daveyton area is affected by a shortage of postmen,” he said.

“The SA Post Office has started recruiting new postmen for Daveyton and that will improve matters in the long term.”

Fouché said any customers who run into issues with postal delivery should contact the customer service desk.

“Best would be if they call our customer services desk on 0860 111 502 and give their street address,” he said.
