According to Ward 27 Clr Jacques Meiring, the pool will remain closed for the next four to six weeks.
After this time, the pool would normally close for the autum/winter season.
During this time, the pumps should be repaired and the water will be emptied because it is too acidic.
“The water does not circulate at the required turnover rate of four turnovers per 24 hours due to a leak in one of the intake flanges, which means that we cannot dose any chemicals effectively to increase the pH,” said Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
“In order not to damage the one remaining pump it was switched off and the water is not circulating at all.”
