“It is a sense of relief that all the hard work has paid off in the end,” she said.

During an interview with the City Times in November, Naidoo said she wants to be Miss SA 2017, because she is confident that she will make a real and tangible difference in the lives of many young South Africans.

The 24-year-old said she would love nothing more than to have her community behind her as she embarks on this journey.

“I hope to shine a light on Benoni and make it a focus area during my reign, and to give the community something to celebrate and be proud of,” said Naidoo, a former Benoni High School learner.

The industrial engineering graduate is passionate about youth development and women empowerment through education.

“Being a female engineer, I understand firsthand how women are often underrated and unrecognised,” she said.

“I want the challenges that I have overcome and the lessons I’ve learnt to serve as an inspiration to the youth, so they can be inspired to live up to their full potential.

“Being crowned Miss SA will give me an opportunity to reach out to the community and spread a positive message to the youth.

“I want 2017 to be the year that we shatter those glass ceilings and break the stereotypes and stigma that still surrounds women till today.”

The second round of public voting opens midnight on February 2.

The public’s SMS votes will have a 25 per cent weight of the overall voting towards the winner, with 75 per cent resting with the official judges.

To vote for Naidoo you can SMS 10 to 45791. Each SMS is charged at R1.50.
