New headmistress takes the reins at Kathstan

The new headmistress of Kathstan College, Tracy Bolleurs, wants to change the perception the public has of her school.

“I want to change the image the community has of Kathstan: that we’re a remedial school,” said Bolleurs.

“Our motto is that we’ll take every learner further, whether it’s the ‘weak’ child where they need to be, or the top child who needs to fly.”

Bolleurs officially started as head of the school on January 1, taking over from Cathy Boyes.

She spent her career at Germiston South Primary School and left in 2015, at the position of deputy headmistress – a position she held for five years.

She said she will build on the previous headmistress’s foundation.

The head of the school explained that Kathstan boasts a full-time remedial therapist and one who works on a part-time basis.

There is also a dedicated school psychologist.

In addition, parents can choose to pay for services of a speech therapist and two occupational therapists.

Bolleurs plans to grow the number of sports facilities and classrooms at the school, but not increasing beyond the 20-pupil limit per classroom.
