Two Benoni SAPS officers arrested

Seven police officers have been arrested, including two from the Benoni Police Station, for fraud.

The Hawks’ Capt Ndivhuwo Mulamu said an intelligence driven operation by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team, yielded the arrest of the officers.

Five of the arrestees are based at the Rabie Ridge Police Station.

“It is alleged that the suspects submitted fraudulent travelling claims for trips to KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Mpumalanga respectively, between March 2014 and March 2015,” said Mulamu.

“The state suffered a loss of an estimated R50 000 due to the fraudulent claims processed.”

The two Benoni-based officers hold the rank of warrant officer (male) and sergeant (female).

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Maj-General Prince Mokotedi, condemned the criminal activities committed by fellow law enforcers, saying it’s appalling and couldn’t be ignored.

“We’re serious about uprooting corruption and all forms of criminality within our ranks, as we are equally determined to strengthen integrity in the service,” he said.

The case against the seven was postponed to March 13 for further investigation.
