Christopher races to success

Farrarmere resident, Christopher (20) Shorter, competed at the VW Engen Polo Cup Challenge recently at Zwartkops and was announced the VW Polo Cup Challenge champion for 2016.

“It still feels like a dream to be Polo Cup champion,” Shorter said.

“It such a big and important title for young drivers to win and is also extremely competitive.”

Shorter raced through parts of the country including Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London, Kyalami and Zwartkops.

“I have been competing in the Polo Cup for three years but have been racing on the national stage for five years,” Shorter added.

However, 2017 is a year of change for the 20-year-old.

“This year I will be moving out of the Polo Cup and will be driving for Mini in a Mini John Cooper Works, which races in Global Touring Car (GTC), the premier category of South African motorsport,” Shorter added.

Shorter was not the only one in his family to compete in these races.

His younger brother, Matthew (17) also competed and was placed fourth in the junior section of the challenge for 2016.
