Kidnapping victim freed from Western Extension property, three arrested

Three men were arrested in Benoni in connection with the kidnapping of a Limpopo man.

Capt Nomsa Sekele, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said the kidnapping victim was held captive in Western Extension.

She said the Benoni Roadblock Task Team was asked to assist detectives from Ritavi, Limpopo who were investigating a business robbery and kidnapping case.

“It is alleged that the victim was kidnapped and brought to Benoni where he was held captive,” said Sekele.

“The suspects contacted the family and demanded a ransom.”

She said an investigation led police to a property in Western Extension on November 9.

“Upon arrival at the said house, the victim was rescued and one of the suspect’s who was guarding him, was arrested,” Sekele added.

“The house was searched and passports, IDs, documents and cellphones believed to be used to commit fraud were found inside the house – as well as pictures of the other two suspects.”

The Roadblock Task Team arrested the remaining two men in Voortrekker Street on November 29, identifying them by the pictures that were found inside the Western Extension house.

The suspects have been transferred to Limpopo.
