Horse confiscated from Benoni Small Farms

Benoni SPCA is asking for donations to take care of a horse recently confiscated from the Benoni Small Farms.

According to a post on the Benoni SPCA Facebook page, the horse was confiscated on November 24 after the SPCA obtained a warrant to enter the property and seize the horse.

The horse was taken straight to a local veterinarian where it was confirmed that the case appears to be one of “blatant animal neglect”.

“According to the vet, the horse is a male who is over 20 years old,” said manager of the Benoni SPCA, Vicky Finnemore.

The Benoni SPCA will have to pay for the following expenses:

• Veterinary treatment and reports

• Farrier costs for the horse’s hooves

• Dental work

• Feeding costs

• Confiscation costs (petrol, resources and so on)

• Boarding and grooming

“So far, we have spent about R3 000 on the horse,” Finnemore added on Tuesday (November 29).

Anyone who would like to donate funds towards the expenses of this confiscation, can SMS the word “SPCA” to 49040 (SMS costs R15, network fees apply).

You can also transfer donations into the SPCA bank account, donate directly to the SPCA or donate food at the SPCA premises at 3 Klein Street.

According to Finnemore, the SPCA is still in talks with the owner about the future of the horse.

The SPCA appreciates any assistance.
