Married couple relive their wedding day

Rynfield residents Richard (82) and Evelyn (80) Hammond relived their wedding day on their 60th wedding anniversary.

The couple, who are originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom, moved to Benoni 34 years ago.

However, they returned to their roots to celebrate their 60th anniversary on October 13.

The two renewed their vows in the same church in which they were married, St Bartholomew’s.

They also danced to their favourite tune, Three Coins in the Fountain, which was the name of the movie they watched on their first date.

“For our second honeymoon, we left the UK and went with our family to Turkey,” Evelyn said.

The couple returned to South Africa on November 4.

“In order to keep a marriage strong, you need to have love, tolerance, forgiveness and be able to work through problems,” Richard advised.

Together the happily married couple have two daughters, Eleine Fox and Michele Kaletsch, and two grandchildren, Jessica and Richard Fox.

They also received a congratulatory certificate from Queen Elizabeth II.
