Roads to be affected by annual Toy Run

Thousands of bikers will turn into the Benoni Northerns Sport Grounds for the 34th annual Gauteng Motorcycle Toy Run on November 27.

The Toy Run will return for a sixth consecutive year to the Benoni Northerns Sport Club.

Around 20 000 to 30 000 bikers are expected to descend upon Benoni, each carting along at least one toy.

The fun-filled day promises live entertainment and a wide variety of stalls.

Many of the bikers will gather at Irene Village Mall, The Blockhouse, Carnival City and Silverstar Casino and make their way to the sports grounds.

This year’s gathering will also be the first women-only mass ride from Montecasino, Fourways.

Non-bikers are also welcome to attend, and are asked to bring along a toy, toiletry item, educational toy or stationery.

Toy guns, knives and battery operated toys will not be accepted.

All the donations will be made to underprivileged children.

The mass procession is expected to arrive just after 9am.

Traffic interruptions are expected on Atlas Road, from the R21, to Elgin Street and Great North Road, up to the Hospital Road intersection.

Parts of Hanekam Street will also be affected.

Brodigan Street will be closed from 8am until about 4.30pm – at the latest.
