UPDATE: Bakkie stolen in Benoni rape and murder case is recovered

Police have found the vehicle which was stolen in the rape, murder and robbery which took place in Benoni’s agricultural holdings in the early hours of yesterday morning (October 28).

Police found the keys of the vehicle in the ignition.

There was no damage to the vehicle and none of the items stolen in the robbery were found in the bakkie.

Scheepers said police have conducted a forensic examination of the vehicle.

It has since been towed to a pound in Benoni.

Scheepers told the City Times that the task team is questioning taxi drivers, hoping they can identify people who abandoned the vehicle at the taxi rank.

He said the female victim is still in hospital and police have not been able to take her statement due to her medical condition, but he hopes to record her statement soon.

Anyone with information about the crime can contact Scheepers on 082 319 9974.
