Wind measuring over 51km/h hits Benoni

Just over 44mm of rainfall fell in Benoni since the start of the month to the afternoon of October 24, according to local climatologist Clive Webber.

Webber, who has a weather station in Rynfield, said we received rainfall on the following days:

•October 8 (2.8mm)
•October 9 (0.6mm)
•October 15 (2mm)
•October 18: (1.8mm)
•October 19: (6.8mm)
•October 20: (4.6mm)
•October 21: (9.2mm)
•October 22: (16.8mm)

The total, from the start of the month to the afternoon of October 24, was 44.6mm.

Webber said 27.2mm of rainfall fell in Benoni in the entire month of October last year.

The long term average for the same month, since 1970, is 72.3mm.

The lowest rainfall for the same period for October is 11mm (1980), while the highest rainfall for the same period and month was 174mm (1993).

The weatherman said the strongest wind in October this year (from the start of the month to October 24) was felt on October 22, measuring 51.5km/h, between 10pm and 10.30pm.

This is classified as gale force winds.

The strongest wind measured on Webber’s station last year October was 57.9km/h.
