Thieves tie up home owner, domestic worker

A home owner and his domestic worker were tied up during a Northmead house robbery this morning (October 20).

The robbery took place in 10th Avenue at around 9am.

Lieut-Col Eugene Scheepers, of the Ekurhuleni Central Cluster Trio Task Team, said a man was reading a newspaper when three armed men entered the home.

He said the robbers jumped over the wall and entered through an open door.

One of the men was armed with a revolver, while the other two had pistols.

“The men pointed a gun at the complainant and when the domestic worker came to check, a gun was also pointed at her,” said Scheepers.

Both were taken into a room in the home, and under gunpoint, were tied up with cable ties.

The suspects ransacked the house and took money from the resident’s wallet.

“After the goods were packed, one of the men made a cellphone call to someone asking for transport as they were finished,” Scheepers added.

“The suspects went outside and drove away.”

Scheepers said the home owner managed to free one leg from the cable ties and walked to his neighbour for assistance.

A white Nissan Sentra was identified as the getaway vehicle on a neighbour’s CCTV footage.

No injuries were reported.

A case of house robbery has been opened at the Benoni Police Station.

The City Times has also reported on a man who was stabbed by an intruder in his Sixth Street, Northmead home, on October 17.
