Miss India SA finalist helps community

Miss India South Africa finalist 2016, Shwetha Suredin, has a Dzign_A_Dream community organisation which she would like the community to know more about.

The 19-year-old, who will hear her fate about being Miss India SA on a national level on December 3 at Gold Reef City, said she wants to do more for the community through her organisation.

“Dzign_A_Dream was established in March with the aim to help those who are in need of assistance,” Suredin said.

“I use my pocket money and hold many campaigns to help the less fortunate.

“Currently I am working on a Diwali Drive taking place on October 30 where I will give hampers to the homeless and people in need.”

She has held three campaigns so far, including, The Cupcake Drive on Valentine’s Day, where she handed out cupcakes to the less fortunate.

Her second was The Easter Egg Drive, at Nkosi’s Haven, a home for Aids orphans in South Gate where she handed Easter eggs to the children and staff.

The third was a Mother’s Day project to pamper moms in old age homes and orphanages, by giving them a hair and beauty makeover which she did in Actonville.

“My dad, Besham, mom, Lekha and brother Sharod (13) Suredin also help me to make my initiative campaigns possible,” she said.

Although she lives in Kempton Park, she is no stranger to the Benoni area as she was schooled at Wordsworth High School from 2010 to 2014.

With the help of the Miss India SA pageant, Suredin said she gained confidence which she never had before.

Now she uses the community organisation as a means to mentor young women.

“I am also collaborating with The Grace Factory which is a non-profit organisation that gives maternity packs to new mothers in government hospitals,” Suredin added.

Anyone who is interested in donating to Suredin’s organisation can contact her on shwethasuredin@gmail.com or visit her Facebook page, Dzign_A_Dream.
