Const Zunickha Essakjee, Benoni SAPS spokesperson, said police received a call regarding a domestic disturbance at around 8pm, on Thursday (September 29).
Police officers proceeded to the Northmead residence and discovered there was a firearm involved.
“The problem turned out to be that the man was suicidal,” Essakjee said.
“Police negotiated with him until just after midnight, when he shot himself.”
Essakjee said the man was certified dead on the scene.
She added that an inquest docket was opened following the incident.
The family could not be reached at the time of publishing.
