Northerns put three past Robertsham

Benoni Northerns Football Club’s (BNFC) first XI played and won 3-0, in what is expected to be their penultimate ELFA Super League fixture for the year, against Robertsham at Northern Areas on Saturday, September 17.

The match was supposed to be the team’s final match of the season, but last weekend’s clash with Randburg was postponed to a date still unannounced.

With three stalwart players missing from coach Jannie van den Berg’s starting XI he again relied on his young players to get the job done.

That is exactly what they did, as goals from Kwanda Sokutu (who bagged a brace) and veteran midfielder Joel Nchableng secured the three points, a bit of revenge for a 6-0 drubbing away to the same opposition back in June.

“We are still waiting on Easterns to hear when we will play the Randburg match and will be continuing training until we know when our last game will be,” said van den Berg.

The teams could potentially share the points.

“It has been a successful season for us in many aspects, particularly with regards to the rise of young players.”
