Old folks get a ‘spring’ in their step

Young helped old to walk the grounds of the Old People’s Home, in celebration of Spring.

The Benoni Host Lions Club and Old People’s Home (OPH) organised the day together, at their premises in Howard Avenue, Western Extension.

“We have a spring braai, then the participants walk around the grounds,” said Alan Geddes (OPH administrator).

The aim was to have everyone do 10 laps.

At the end of the walk, a prize-giving ceremony was held, to recognise the best men’s hat, the best women’s hat, the best dressed participant and the best walking aid for the day.

Diane Crompton (Benoni Host Lions Club president) and Geddes said the event is meant to celebrate the start of the new season.

“It is to let the old people have fun, as well as being a precursor to our upcoming daily summer walks,” Geddes said.
