Sibikwa welcomes music lovers

Sibikwa Arts Centre, on Liverpool Road, invites you to join them for a day of rhythmical delight in a family-friendly environment on September 24, from 9am to 4pm.

Because Sibikwa believes that the drum holds a special place in African history and heritage, the backbone of African music and is known as the oldest instrument in the world, they are conducting a day filled with drum workshops and members of the community showcasing their drumming talents.

The workshop for beginners is conducted by Esther Maumela, for intermediates by Gontse Segona and for advanced by master-drummers Mabeleng Moholo and Thebe Lipere.

If you have a drum, bring it along because Sibikwa only has a limited number available.

The morning will then be rounded off with a drumming and movement experience led by renowned choreographer Thabo Rapoo.

The afternoon then kicks off with community and school drum ensembles showcasing their percussive power.

Those who do not play the drums are welcome to attend to support.

The master drummers will then present some short solo pieces leading up to the grand finale of the day, an interactive mass drumming jam session.

Tickets are R20.

Took reserve your place, please contact michael@sibikwa.co.za and for more information, contact the Sibikwa Arts Centre on 011 422 4359.
