Residents rejoice over Pretoria Road

With the end in sight of the work on Pretoria Road, Rynfield residents have praised the efforts of the construction crew who finished off the project.

The second company was hired to finalise work on the arterial road, after the previous contractor missed their deadline at the end of December 2015.

Herbert Trokis, a Rynpark Two resident, commended the new contractor, but criticised the metro for awarding the tender to the initial company.

“What we went through while the work was ongoing, was rough,” Trokis said.

“It happens too often, where tenders are awarded to the wrong people.

“The second company knew what they were doing; you can see the difference and there is no question about it.”

Trokis hopes for work to continue on the rest of the road, leading further towards Putfontein, saying: “This road has an unreal amount of heavy duty vehicles using it.

“If they do continue, I hope the same crew that did this last bit gets the contract.”

Maureen Smith, also from Rynpark Two, felt the outcome on Pretoria Road was well worth the wait and the work put into it.

“The company that took over did an excellent job and worked very neatly and professionally,” she said.

A Rynpark Three resident, Joan Rankin, said: “It’s a 100 per cent improvement, but they still need to finish off marking the road and clearing away around Rynpark.”

Newly elected Ward 24 councillor, Kabelo Mahonko, expressed appreciation for the work done so far.

“It looks much better than before,” she said.

Trokis concluded by saying: “There are big problems within the metro, with unauthorised expenditure and people being awarded tenders without complying with regulations.”

The metro was asked for comment, but none was forthcoming at the time of going to print.
